NVC Launches Video On Demand
Date: December 5, 2005

Northern Valley Communications of Aberdeen recently launched its all new ViewNow Video On Demand service. ViewNow allows NVC cable television customers to browse, preview and order movies from a video library with only a remote control. Once a movie is purchased, the customer will be able to watch the movie whenever they please and have the ability to stop, pause, fast forward and rewind the movie during the 24 hours viewing window.

"Video On Demand (VOD) is an application that empowers the customer and allows them to decide what they want to watch and more importantly when they want to watch it," stated NVC's CEO James Groft.  "We're happy to be in front of much of the industry and offer our customers this new and exciting service."

The change comes as the cable television industry moves from a scheduled pay-per-view model to a more customer friendly model.  In the past pay-per-view movies started at a certain time and if you missed the start you were out of luck until the next showing.  With Video On Demand movies no longer have to start at the top of the hour or on the half-hour, the scheduling is completely left to the end user's discretion.

"Movies are just the start of the VOD implementation, over time the service will continue to grow and include free programming, subscription service on demand and local features," added Groft.  "We feel as the service hits the mainstream more and more content and features will become available, which will put control in the hands of the customer."
