The
city of
Redfield
adopted an ordinance on July 17, 2006 that will allow
Northern Valley Communications of Aberdeen to provide
cable television services in Redfield. Franchise Ordinance
No. 02-2006 becomes effective 20 days after its first
publication date of July 26, 2006.
Northern
Valley
has operated as an Internet service provider in Redfield
and throughout northeast South Dakota
since 1997. In addition to being the largest Internet
provider in the area, NVC is currently installing fiber
optic lines in select areas of Redfield that will provide
local and long distance phone service, cable television,
and high-speed Internet. The company has been installing a
similar network in Aberdeen
over the last eight years and provides telecommunications
services to businesses and residents there.
NVC
offers an all-digital cable television product with over
120 channels including local networks, premium movie
suites, on-screen program guide, digital music channels,
and other advanced features such as caller ID information
displaying on the television screen.
Although
service is not yet available in all areas, new
construction will continue to add service availability.
"We have been making good progress on our construction
this year in Redfield", said NVC's CEO James Groft.
"NVC is looking forward to expanding our coverage area
to include more businesses and eventually the residential
neighborhoods." Groft reports that many Redfield
residents have already contacted NVC regarding its
services. The company is keeping a database with
interested parties and will notify them when service is
available in their specific neighborhood.
NVC has a local Redfield phone number and can be
reached at 475-1000.
NVC
is a wholly owned subsidiary of James Valley
Telecommunications, a cooperative that has been providing
telecommunication services to its members in northeast
South Dakota
for over 50 years. JVT
serves the communities of Groton, Claremont, Andover,
Frederick, Conde, Ferney, Stratford, Columbia, Bristol,
Doland, Houghton, Mellette, Turton and Hecla.
